Question

Nitin has Rs. 1224 with him. He divided it amongst his sons Pravin and Rishi and asked them to invest it at 4% rate of interest compounded annually. It was seen that Pravin and Rishi got the same amount after 14 and 15 years, respectively. How much (in Rs. ) did Nitin give to Rishi?

A.

624

B.

600

C.

724

D.

450

Correct option is B

Given:
Total amount with Nitin = Rs. 1224
Parvin invested for 14 years at 4% compound interest
Rishi invested for 15 years at 4% compound interest
Both received the same final amount
Concept Used:
A=P(1+R100)TA = P \left(1 + \frac{R}{100} \right)^T
Solution:
Let Pravin's principal = P and Rishi's principal = R
P+R = 1224
Since final amounts are equal:
P(1.04)14=R(1.04)15P(1.04)^{14} = R(1.04)^{15}
=> P = 1.04R
Substitute P = 1.04R in P + R = 1224
1.04R + N = 1224
2.04R = 1224
R = 12242.04\frac{1224}{2.04} = 600
Amount with Rishi = Rs.600
