Krish has Rs. 1224 with him. He divided it amongst his sons Veer and Nitin and asked them to invest it at 4% rate of interest compounded annually. It was seen that Veer and Nitin got same amount after 12 and 13 years respectively. How much (in Rs. ) did Krish give to Nitin?

Total amount with Krish = Rs. 1224
Veer invested for 12 years at 4% compound interest
Nitin invested for 13 years at 4% compound interest
Both received the same final amount

Solution:
Let Veer's principal = V and Nitin's principal = N
V + N = 1224
Since final amounts are equal:
​$$V(1.04)^{12} = N(1.04)^{13}$$​​
=> V = 1.04N
Substitute V = 1.04N in V + N = 1224
1.04N + N = 1224
2.04N = 1224
N = $$\frac{1224}{2.04}$$​ = 600
Amount with Nitin = Rs.600
