Question

In a race, an athlete covers a distance of 312 m in 52 sec in the first lap. He covers the second lap of the same length in 156 sec. What is the average speed (in m/sec) of the athlete?

A.

11

B.

5

C.

3

D.

1

Correct option is C

Given:

Distance of each lap = 312 m

Time for first lap = 52 sec

Time for second lap = 156 sec

Formula Used:

Average speed = Total distanceTotal time\frac{\text{Total distance}}{\text{Total time}}

Solution:

Total distance = 312 + 312 = 624 m

Total time = 52 + 156 =  208 sec

Average speed = 624208=3 m/sec \frac{624}{208} = 3 \text{ m/sec}
