Question

In a classroom, the number of boys and the number of girls are initially equal. 8 girls left to play ring tennis, leaving twice as many boys as girls in the classroom. The total number of girls and boys present initially were ______.

A.

34

B.

32

C.

24

D.

26

Correct option is B

Given:

The number of boys and girls initially were equal

Number of girls left to play ring tennis = 8

Solution:

Let the number of girls left in the classroom after 8 girls left = x

Then number of boys in classroom = 2x

According to question:

x+8 = 2x

2x-x=8

x=8

Hence total number of girls = x+8 = 8+8 =16

And number of boys were equal to girls = 16

Total number of girls and boys = 16+16 =32
