    If a solid sphere of radius 20 cm is moulded into 8 solid spherical balls of equal radius, then the radius of each ball will be: (Where π = 22/7 )
    Question

    If a solid sphere of radius 20 cm is moulded into 8 solid spherical balls of equal radius, then the radius of each ball will be: (Where π = 22/7 )

    A.

    10 cm

    B.

    12.5 cm

    C.

    11.5 cm

    D.

    More than one of the above

    E.

    None of the above

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Radius of bigger sphere =20cm

    Number of smaller sphere = 8

    Formula Used:

    Volume of sphere =43×π×(r3)\frac{4}{3}\times\pi \times (r^3)

    Solution:

    When sphere is melted and carved into smaller balls the volume remains same.

    Hence

    Volume of bigger sphere = n ×\times Volume of smaller ball

    43×π×(20)3=8×43×π×(r3)\frac{4}{3}\times\pi \times (20)^3 = 8\times \frac{4}{3}\times\pi \times (r^3)

    r3=80008=1000r^3= \frac{8000}{8} =1000

    r=10003=10cmr= \sqrt[3]{1000} =10cm

    Thus, the radius of the smaller ball is 10 cm.
