Question

Identify the inference from among the following statements:

A.

All species produce a much larger number of offspring than the number which survive to become adults

B.

Production of more individuals of a species than the environment can support lead to a struggle for existence among them

C.

Individuals of a population vary extensively in their characteristics

D.

Populations tend to remain stable in size, excepting seasonal fluctuations

Correct option is B

When a species produces a large number of offsprings, there is often not enough food, water, shelter, or other necessary resources to support all individuals.
This creates competition among the members of the species for these limited resources. Only a fraction of the offspring will be able to survive and reproduce, while others will struggle and potentially perish.
