How does the atmospheric pressure (AP) vary with respect to the altitude?
    Question

How does the atmospheric pressure (AP) vary with respect to the altitude?

    A.

AP increases with increase in altitude

    B.

AP decreases with increase in altitude

    C.

It remains constant at all heights

    D.

AP either increases or decreases depending only on temperature

    Correct option is B

Atmospheric pressure decreases with increases in the altitude. As we know that the density of air becomes heavier near the surface of the earth (due to gravity) and begins to lighten as we go to higher altitudes and eventually leads to empty space, i.e. outside the atmosphere of the earth. Thus, the atmospheric pressure is high at lower altitudes, thedensity being higher. The atmospheric pressure is low at higher altitudes, the density being lower.
