Question

Gautam started a business with a sum of ₹ 60,000. Jatin joined him 8 months later with a sum of ₹ 35,000. At what respective ratio will the two share the profit after two years?

A.

18:7

B.

15:7

C.

12:7

D.

5:7

Correct option is A

Given:

Gautam’s investment = ₹60,000 (for full 24 months)
Jatin’s investment = ₹35,000 (joined after 8 months → invested for 16 months)

Concept Used:
Profit is shared in the ratio of investment × time.

Solution:

Profit ratio=(I1×T1):(I2×T2)\text{Profit ratio} = (I_1 \times T_1) : (I_2 \times T_2)

Gautam’s contribution:
60,000×24=14,40,00060{,}000 \times 24 = 14{,}40{,}000

Jatin’s contribution:
35,000×16=5,60,00035{,}000 \times 16 = 5{,}60{,}000

Ratio:
14,40,000 : 5,60,000 = 144 : 56

= 18 : 7
