Find the difference between the selling prices of two articles sold at 12.5% profit and 12.5% loss, if the cost price is Rs.400 each.
Question

Find the difference between the selling prices of two articles sold at 12.5% profit and 12.5% loss, if the cost price is Rs.400 each.

A.

Rs.120

B.

Rs.100

C.

Rs.80

D.

Rs.140

Correct option is B

Given:

Cost price of each article = Rs.400

For the first article sold at 12.5% profit:

Selling Price = Cost Price×(1+12.5100)=400×1.125=Rs.450\text{Cost Price} \times \left( 1 + \frac{12.5}{100} \right) = 400 \times 1.125 = Rs.450

For the second article sold at 12.5% loss:

Selling Price =Cost Price×(112.5100)=400×0.875=Rs.350 \text{Cost Price} \times \left( 1 - \frac{12.5}{100} \right) = 400 \times 0.875 = Rs.350

Now, the difference in selling prices is:

Difference =  450 - 350 = Rs.100 .

Thus, the difference between the selling prices is Rs.100.
