Question

By selling 50 mangoes for Rs.30, a person loses 10%. How many mangoes should he sell for Rs.28 to gain 20%?

A.

35

B.

25

C.

30

D.

20

Correct option is A

Given:

Selling price of 50 mangoes = Rs.30

Loss percentage = 10%

Selling price for Rs.28 to gain 20%.

Formula Used:

Loss % = CP - SPCP×100\frac{\text{CP - SP}}{\text{CP}} \times 100

Solution:

Find CP per mango:
Selling price for 50 mangoes = Rs.30,

so SP per mango = 3050=0.6.\frac{30}{50} = 0.6.

CP per mango = 0.6110100=0.60.9=0.6667 Rs.\frac{0.6}{1 - \frac{10}{100}} = \frac{0.6}{0.9} = 0.6667 \, \text{Rs.}

SP per mango for 20% gain = 0.6667×1.2=0.8 Rs.0.6667 \times 1.2 = 0.8 \, \text{Rs.}

Number of mangoes = 280.8 \frac{28}{0.8} = 35
