Question

An object travels 9 metres in 3 seconds and then another 23 metres in 5 seconds. What is the average speed of the object?

A.

4 m/s

B.

5 m/s

C.

6 m/s

D.

3 m/s

Correct option is A

Given:

An object travels 9 m in 3 seconds

and then another 23 m in 5 seconds

Formula Used:

Average Speed = Total Distance/Total Time

Solution:

=> Total distance = 9 + 23 = 32 m

=> Total time = 3 + 5 = 8 sec

Now, Average speed = Total distance/Total time

=> 32/8 = 4 m/sec

∴ The average speed is 4 m/s.
