    Question

    A water tank can be filled in 38 minutes by using 44 pipes of the same capacity. In how many minutes (rounded off to two decimal places) will the water tank be filled if we use 37 pipes of the same capacity as above?

    A.

    49.75

    B.

    39.05

    C.

    43.91

    D.

    45.19

    Correct option is D

    Given:

    Time to fill tank with 44 pipes = 38 minutes

    Number of pipes used = 37

    Concept Used:

    Filling time is inversely proportional to the number of pipes if their capacities are the same.

    Formula Used:

    T1×P1=T2×P2T_1 \times P_1 = T_2 \times P_2

    where , T = time, P = pipe

    Solution:

    From the formula;

    44 × 38 = 37 × T2

    T2 = 38×4437=16723745.19\frac{38 \times 44}{37} = \frac{1672}{37} \approx 45.19 min.
