Question

 A train 160 meter long takes 8 seconds to pass a man standing on a platform 200 meter long. How long does it take to cross the platform?

A.

20 seconds

B.

18 seconds

C.

40 seconds

D.

80 seconds

Correct option is B

The train is 160 meters long and it takes 8 seconds to pass a man.

Speed = Distance / Time = 160 meters / 8 seconds = 20 meters per second.

Time = Total distance / Speed

= 360 meters / 20 meters per second

= 18 seconds.

The train needs to pass the entire length of the platform, so the total distance is the length of the train + the length of the platform.

Total distance = 160 meters + 200 meters  = 360 meters.
