Question

A shopkeeper marked up an article 40% above its cost price and gives two successive discounts of 14 2/7% and 10% on it. If difference between profit earned and discount given on article is Rs 48, then find marked price of the article?

A.

Rs 240

B.

Rs 280

C.

Rs 216

D.

Rs 180

E.

Rs 300

Correct option is B

Let cost price of the article = Rs. 100x
Then, marked price of the article = 100x × 140/100 = Rs. 140x
Selling price of the article =
ATQ
(140x – 108x) – (108x – 100x) = 48
24x = 48
x = 2
So, marked price of the article = Rs 280
