A student is declared pass if he passes in at least one of the two examinations (half-yearly/annual). Which section has the maximum pass percentage?

    A.

    Section B

    B.

    Section A

    C.

    Section D

    D.

    Section C

    Correct option is D

    Formula Used:

    Pass Percentage=Number of Students PassedTotal Number of Students×100\text{Pass Percentage} = \frac{\text{Number of Students Passed}}{\text{Total Number of Students}} \times 100

    Solution:

the total number of students in each section as follows:

    Section A: Total = 27 + 17 + 6 + 62 = 112
    Section B: Total = 25 + 15 + 8 + 57 = 105
    Section C: Total = 23 + 18 + 9 + 60 = 110
    Section D: Total = 26 + 19 + 7 + 59 = 111

The number of students who passed in each section:

    Section A: Students passed = 17 + 6 + 62 = 85
    Section B: Students passed = 15 + 8 + 57 = 80
    Section C: Students passed = 18 + 9 + 60 = 87
    Section D: Students passed = 19 + 7 + 59 = 85

The pass percentage for each section:

    Section A:Pass Percentage=85112×100=75.89% Section B:Pass Percentage=80105×100=76.19% Section C:Pass Percentage=87110×100=79.09% Section D:Pass Percentage=85111×100=76.57%\text{Section A:} \quad \text{Pass Percentage} = \frac{85}{112} \times 100 = 75.89\%\\ \ \\\text{Section B:} \quad \text{Pass Percentage} = \frac{80}{105} \times 100 = 76.19\%\\ \ \\\text{Section C:} \quad \text{Pass Percentage} = \frac{87}{110} \times 100 = 79.09\%\\ \ \\\text{Section D:} \quad \text{Pass Percentage} = \frac{85}{111} \times 100 = 76.57\%

The section with the maximum pass percentage is Section C, with a pass percentage of 79.09%
