Question

A rectangle has a width 'a' and length 'b'. If the width is decreased by 20% and the length is increased by 10%, then what is the area of the new rectangle in percentage compared to 'ab'?

A.

110%

B.

80%

C.

88%

D.

120%

Correct option is C

According to Question :
We have area of Rectangle =length x breadth
=b x a
Given breadth is decreased by 20% so we have new breadth =4a/5
And length is increased by 10% so new length of rectangle = 11b/10
Area of Rectangle = 4a/5 x11b/10
=44ab/50
So Area new =22ab/25
Which is less than previous one by 3/25 or 12% and it is 88% percent of previous one.
