Question

A pattern of shaving is made in such a way, that a person 30 cm away from the mirror sees his image to be 1.33 times larger. What is the radius of curvature of the cast?

A.

27.5 cm

B.

28.6 cm

C.

30.4 cm

D.

34.25 cm

Correct option is D

The correct answer is (d) 34.25 cm

Explanation:

Given, Object distance = -30 cm

Magnification, M= 1.33

We know that M= -vu\frac{v}{u}

that is, 1.33= v30\frac{-v}{-30}

thus, v= 39.9 cm

The mirror formula is given as 1f\frac{1}{f} = 1v\frac{1}{v} + 1u\frac{1}{u}

139.9\frac{1}{39.9} + 130\frac{1}{30} = 1f\frac{1}{f}

thus, f= 17.1244 cm

Also, we know, f = R2\frac{R}{2}

Thus, R(Radius of curvature) = 2x 17.1244 = 34.25 cm
