Question

A man sold an article for Rs. 216, there by gaining 12.5%. The cost of the article (in Rs. ) was:

A.

189

B.

243

C.

246

D.

192

Correct option is D

Given:

Selling price of the article = Rs. 216

Gain percentage = 12.5%

Formula Used:

SP = CP×(1+Gain %100) \text{CP} \times \left(1 + \frac{\text{Gain \%}}{100}\right)

Solution:

Applying the formula;

216 = CP × (1+12.5100)\left(1+\frac{12.5}{100}\right)

CP = 2161+12.5100\frac{216}{1 + \frac{12.5}{100}}

216×100112.5\frac{216 \times 100}{112.5}

= 192

Thus, the cost price of the article is Rs. 192
