Question

A 10 resistor is connected across a battery. The heat produced in the resistor in 5 seconds is 200 J. the potential difference across the resistor is:

A.

40 V

B.

30 V

C.

20 V

D.

10 V

Correct option is C

The correct answer is (C)  20 V

Given:

H = 200 J

R = 10 Ω

T = 5 seconds

Formula used:

H = I2I^2 ×RT

Where,

  • H is the heat produced (in joules),
  • III is the current (in amperes),
  • RRR is the resistance (in ohms),
  • ttt is the time (in seconds).

H = V2R \frac{V^2}{R} t

200 = 5V210 \frac{5V^2}{10}

400 = V2V^2

V = 20 V

The potential difference across the resistor is 20 V.
