Question

2 men or 9 women can do a job in 14 days. 2 men work for 9 days and leave. The number of women required to complete the remaining work in 9 days is:

A.

2

B.

3

C.

5

D.

4

Correct option is C

Given:

2 men or 9 women can complete the job in 14 days.

Formula Used:

Work is inversely proportional to the number of workers and directly proportional to the time taken.

Work = Number of workers × Time taken

Solution:

Comparing efficiencies of men and women

2 men work done = 9 women work done

2M = 9W

MW=92\frac{M}{W} = \frac{9}{2}

Total work  = 9×2×14=2529\times 2 \times 14 = 252 unit

2 Men work for 9 days

2×9×9=162 unit2\times 9\times 9 = 162 \ unit

Remaining work = 252 - 162 = 90 unit

Women required to complete the remaining work in 9 days

902×9=5\frac{90}{2\times9} = 5

Thus, total number of women required are 5
