Preliminary Examination
The prelims are a screening test, and it has only one paper:
Paper: General Studies (150 marks, 2 hours)
It has a minus marking of 1/4th marks
Mains Examination:
The BPSC Mains consists of four papers, all of which are descriptive in nature:
Paper 1: General Hindi (100 marks) – This paper is qualifying, and candidates must score at least 30% to pass.
Paper 2: General Studies Paper 1 (300 marks)
Paper 3: General Studies Paper 2 (300 marks)
Paper 4: Optional Subject (300 marks) – Candidates have to choose one subject from the list of optional subjects provided by BPSC.
The total for the mains (excluding Hindi) is 900 marks, and only the marks from the General Studies papers and the optional subject are counted for merit.
Personality Test (Interview)
The interview carries 120 marks.
It evaluates the candidate’s personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, and suitability for administrative roles.
Final Selection: The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the mains exam (900 marks) and the interview (120 marks), making a total of 1020 marks.
