Exam Pattern

1. Preliminary Examination

Objective type MCQs
2 Papers:
General Studies I – Covers current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, science & tech, environment (with Assam-related focus)
General Studies II – CSAT style: reasoning, data interpretation, comprehension, etc.
Marks: 200 each (total 400)

2. Main Examination

Descriptive format, written papers.
Six papers covering:
Essay
General Studies I
General Studies II
General Studies III
General Studies IV (Ethics & Aptitude)
Assam-specific studies (history, culture, geography & socio-economic issues)
Usually 1500 marks total.

3. Interview / Personality Test

Marks from the interview are combined with Mains for final ranking.

Selection Process

Prelims – qualifying test; top candidates move to
Mains (Written) – descriptive papers; shortlisted for
Interview / Personality Test – final merit list based on mains + interview scores.

Eligibility Criteria
While final Notification (2026) will list exact criteria, typically:

Educational Qualification: Graduate degree from a recognized university.
