ANSWER:

S1. Ans. C. 900

Sol. Profit earned by John by selling one AC = Rs. 34,500 –Rs. 30,000 = Rs. 4,500

Profit earned by John by selling 5 ACs = Rs. 4,500 × 4 =Rs. 22,500

Profit earned by Jimmy by selling one AC = Rs. 32,400 – Rs. 30,000 = Rs. 2,400

Profit earned by Jimmy by selling 9 ACs = Rs. 2,400 × 9 = Rs. 21,600

∴ Required difference = Rs. 22,500 – Rs. 21,600 = Rs.900

S2.  Ans.  A.10%

Sol. Cost price for Jack = Rs. 28,500

∴ CP for John, Johnny and Jimmy = Rs. 28,500 × 100/95 = Rs. 30,000 (Since Jack got 5% discount)

For Johnny, Profit = 18% (given)

For Jimmy, Cost Price = Rs. 30000

MP = 30,000 × 120/100 = 36,000.

SP = 36,000 × 90/100 = Rs. 32,400.

Profit % = [(32400 – 30000)/30000] × 100 = 8%

∴ Required difference = (18 – 8)% = 10%

S3. Ans. D.Jack

Sol. Cost price for Jack = Rs. 28,500

∴ CP for John, Johnny and Jimmy = Rs. 28,500 × 100/95 = Rs. 30,000 (Since Jack got 5% discount)

For John, Cost Price = Rs. 30000

Profit % = 15%

Selling Price = 30000 × (115/100) = Rs. 34500

For Johnny, Cost price = Rs. 30000

Profit % = 18%

Selling price = 30000 × (118/100) = Rs. 35400

For Jimmy, Cost price = Rs. 30000

Profit % = [(32400 – 30000)/30000] × 100 = 8%

Marked price = 30000 × (120/100) = Rs. 36000

Discount% = 2 successive discounts of 10% each

Selling price = 36000 × (90/100) × (90/100) = 32400

For Jack, Cost price = Rs. 28500

Profit % = [(28856.25 – 28500/28500] × 100 = 1.25%

Marked price = 28500 × (125/100) = Rs. 35625

Discount% = 10%

Selling price = 35625 × (90/100) = 28856.25

Hence, we can get the best deal from Jack.

S4. Ans. B. Rs. 7,200

Sol. For Jimmy, Cost price = Rs. 30000

Profit % = [(32400 – 30000)/30000] × 100 = 8%

Marked price = 30000 × (120/100) = Rs. 36000

Discount % = 2 successive discounts of 10% each

Selling price = 36000 × (90/100) × (90/100) = 32400

Profit = Rs. 32,400 – Rs. 30,000 = 2,400

∴ Profit for three ACs = Rs. 2,400 × 3 = Rs. 7200

S5. Ans. B. Johny

Sol. John’s profit % = 15% (given)

Johny’s profit % = 18% (given)

Jimmy’s profit % = (32400 – 30000)/30000 × 100 = 8%

Jack’s profit = (28,856.25 – 28500)/28500 × 100 = 1.25% (approx.)

Hence, Johny earned the highest profit%.

S6. Ans.B. Rs.104

Sol: 1.08x = 1404

x = 1300

The reduction of the price of the watch = 104

S7. Ans. B. 50

Sol: Commission up to 10000 = 10000 * 8/100 = 800

Ratio = 2x:x ; Commission = 2x, Bonus = x ;

Bonus = 950 – 800 * 1/3 = 150 * 1/3 = 50

S8. Ans. C. 800

Sol:  From Options;

let Number of girls = 800

Number of boys = 1000

96% of 1000 + 800 = 95% of 800 +1000[satisfies the condition; Check the condition with other options also]

S9. Ans. D. 3200

Sol: Let there be X books in the library.

Hindi books = 60% of X = 60X /100 = 0.6X

Remaining Books = X – 0.6X = 0.4X

English books = 40% of reaming books = 60%

of 0.4X = 0.24X.

Malayalam Books = X-0.6X -0.24X = 0.16X

Given, 0.24X = 4800

X = 4800/0.24 = 20000

Malayalam Books = 0.16X = 0.16*20000 = 3200.

S10.Ans. C. 355

Sol: smaller number = x; larger number = y

0.8x + 4 = 0.4y

4y – 8x = 40

y – x = 125

x = 115; y = 240

x + y = 355

S11. Ans. A. 60%

Sol: Men = 600x

Women = 400x

Total engineers = 480x

Male engineers = 480x * 0.66 = 320x

Women who are Engineers = 160x

Women who are not Engineers = 400x – 160x = 240x

Required percentage = 240/400 * 100 = 60%

S12. Ans. B. 50%

Sol: 200 + 20% of 200 = 240

240 + 25% of 240 = 300

Required percentage = 300 – 200/200 * 100 = 50%

S13. Ans. C. Rs.10000

Sol. Remaining amount = x * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.9

0.729x = 7290

x = 10000

S14. Ans. E. 500

Sol: x*0.9*0.8*0.75 =270

x = 270 * 10000 / 9 * 8 * 75 x = 500

S15. Ans. B. 16.66%

Sol: Let the initial Cost of fresh oranges = 100.

packaging cost = 20. Initial total cost = 100 + 20= 120

After increasing in cost of fresh mangoes 30%,

Cost of fresh mangoes = 130

And cost of packing go down by 50 % so,

Cost of packing = 10.

Total cost = 130 + 10 = 140.

Increased cost = 140 – 120 = 20.

% increased = (20*100) /120 = 16.66%.
