The Noble Peace prizes, for the first time were awarded in Stockholm and Christiania On December 10, 1901. Sir Alfred Nobel, in his will decided to share the largest part of his fortune to confer prizes upon laureates who through their service in the field of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or medicine, literature and peace, work towards the advancement of humanity. 1895 നവംബർ 27-ന്, ആൽഫ്രഡ് നോബൽ തന്റെ അവസാന വിൽപ്പത്രത്തിൽ ഒപ്പുവെച്ചു, ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രം, രസതന്ത്രം, ശരീരശാസ്ത്രം/ വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രം, സാഹിത്യം, സമാധാനം എന്നീ മേഖലകളിലെ സമ്മാനങ്ങളുടെ പരമ്പരയ്ക്ക് തന്റെ സമ്പത്തിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പങ്ക് നൽകി. അന്നുമുതൽ ഈ പുരസ്കാരം നോബൽ സമ്മാനം എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. 1901 നും 2022 നും ഇടയിൽ, ആൽഫ്രഡ് നോബലിന്റെ സ്മരണയ്ക്കായി നൊബേൽ സമ്മാനങ്ങളും സാമ്പത്തിക ശാസ്ത്രത്തിനുള്ള സമ്മാനവും 989 ആളുകൾക്കും സംഘടനകൾക്കും 615 തവണ സമ്മാനിച്ചു. 1901 മുതൽ, നൊബേൽ സമ്മാനങ്ങൾ നൽകാത്ത വർഷങ്ങളുണ്ട്. 49 തവണ നൊബേൽ സമ്മാനങ്ങൾ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. സമ്മാനദാന ചടങ്ങുകൾ വർഷം തോറും നടക്കുന്നു. ഓരോ സ്വീകർത്താവിനും ഒരു സ്വർണ്ണ മെഡൽ, ഒരു ഡിപ്ലോമ, ഒരു മോനിറ്ററി അവാർഡ് എന്നിവ ലഭിക്കുന്നു.
