1.”Unveiling Ancient Tamil Treasures: New Museum in Adichanallur”

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for a museum in Adichanallur showcasing ancient Tamil artefacts.
  • Museum plan announced in 2020 Union Budget.
  • Excavation led by ASI’s Arun Raj revealed burial urns, metal products, gold diadem from ancient Tamil civilization.
  • Excavated items displayed in a glass-covered pit for easy viewing; Sitharaman and MP Kanimozhi inspected the burial urns.
  • The excavated artefacts, mostly burial urns, have been placed in a toughened glass-covered pit at the ‘B’ Site in the Adichanallur ‘parambu’ in an ‘as is where is’ condition so that the visitors standing above the pit can easily see these utensils and other products used by ancient Tamils 3,000 years ago.

2.”Rediscovering Ancient Tamil Manuscripts: Gnanamuyarchi Unearthed in Italian Monastery”

  • Palm manuscripts from the 18th Century titled Gnanamuyarchi discovered in an Armenian monastery in Northern Italy.
  • Tamil scholar Tamil Bharathan, from JNU, gained access to the manuscripts after persuasion.
  • Manuscripts potentially a copy of the first Tamil translation of Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercise, attributed to Gnanaprakasasamy (Michele Bertoldi).
  • Professor Margherita Trento provided assistance; the text has been printed multiple times in the 19th Century by Mission Press in Puducherry.

3.”PM Inaugurates Revamp of Eight Chennai Division Railway Stations”

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the renovation of eight railway stations in Chennai division.
  • The ceremony was conducted virtually as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
  • Chennai Divisional Railway Manager and senior officials participated in the event at stations including Chengalpattu, Perambur, Guduvanchery, Tiruvallur, Tiruttani, Gummidipoondi, Arakkonam, and Jolarpettai junction.
  • The renovation, costing ₹136 crore, will enhance the commuting experience with features like escalators, lifts, skywalks, improved facades, better circulating areas, passenger information systems, signages, and closed-circuit television installations.

4.”President Unveils Subramania Bharathi Portrait and Renames Durbar Hall at Raj Bhavan”

  • President Droupadi Murmu unveiled a portrait of Tamil poet-journalist Subramania Bharathi at Raj Bhavan.
  • The Durbar Hall on the campus was renamed ‘Bharathiar Mandapam’.
  • Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Governor R.N. Ravi, former Governors, and dignitaries attended the event.
  • The Durbar Hall typically hosts public functions and swearing-in ceremonies for High Court Chief Justices and State Cabinet members.

5.”Notable Doctorate Awards for Research Achievements in Various Fields”

  • Former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary K. Shanmugam awarded a doctorate for his thesis on the effects of transfers on growth, public expenditure, and revenue of Indian states on August 6.
  • G.V. Selvam, VIT’s vice-president, received a doctorate for his thesis evaluating higher education in India, with a focus on the UK and USA.
  • Sankarganesh Karuppaiah, an IRS officer and Additional Commissioner of Income Tax in Mangalore, obtained a doctorate for his study on the effects and incidents of corporate income tax in India.
  • The awards were granted for the significant research contributions made by the recipients in their respective fields.
