The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) conducts the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination in three stages:
1. Preliminary Examination
Type: Objective Type (Multiple Choice Questions)
Papers: Two papers
Paper 1: General Studies (100 marks, 2 hours)
Paper 2: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) (100 marks, 2 hours)
Total Marks: 200
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.
Main Examination
Type: Descriptive Essay Type
Papers: Four papers
Paper 1: English (including English Essay) - 100 marks
Paper 2: Hindi (including Hindi Essay in Devnagri Script) - 100 marks
Paper 3: General Studies - 200 marks
Paper 4: One optional subject chosen from a list of 23 subjects - 200 marks.
Total Marks: 600 (excluding optional subject marks).
Personality Test/Interview
Candidates qualifying the Mains Examination are called for an interview, which carries 75 marks.
