• CBDT has rolled out Dispute Resolution Scheme (e-DRS), 2022, to minimize litigation.

Key Points:

• The Central Board of Revenue, as the Department’s apex body charged with the administration of taxes, came into existence as a result of the Central Board of Revenue Act, 1924.
• It is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act, 1963.
• The CBDT is a part of the Department of Revenue in the Ministry of Finance. 
• Its functions include formulation of policies, dealing with matters relating to levy and collection of direct taxes, and supervision of the functioning of the entire Income Tax Department. 

• Recently, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Vadhvan Port in Palghar, Maharashtra.

Key Points:

• Vadhavan Port is a proposed deep sea port at Vadhavan in Palghar district of Maharashtra. 
• The port will be built on the coast of the Arabian Sea. 
• The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is responsible for the construction of the port.
• After the construction of the port, it will be one of the deepest sea ports in India after Vizhinjam International Seaport Thiruvananthapuram.

• Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Key Points:

• GEF was jointly organized by the Payments Council of India, National Payments Corporation of India, and Fintech Convergence Council. 
  • Fintech (Financial Technology) rely primarily on technology and cloud services to provide financial services to customers (like Paytm, PhonePe). 

• The GFF includes exhibitions of fintech innovations, investment pitches, workshops, launching of thought leadership reports and academic papers, and hackathons.

• The Global Fintech Awards (GFA), which recognise and celebrate exceptional initiatives in the fintech ecosystem by individuals and enterprises from across the world, are instituted under the GFF. 

• A deep depression currently situated over Saurashtra and Kachchh regions of Gujarat is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm (Cyclone Asna).
• Cyclone Asna would be the first cyclone to form in August in the North Indian Ocean (NIO) region since 1981 and the first in the Arabian Sea since 1976.

Key Points:

• A cyclone is a large-scale system of air that rotates around the center of a low-pressure area. 
• The cyclone forms around the low-pressure area, called a depression, along a zone of cold and warm air exchange called the ‘eye wall’. 
• The eye is the central and calmest part of the cyclone. 
• The air circulates inward in an:
  • anticlockwise direction in the Northern hemisphere
  • clockwise in the Southern hemisphere.

• India has yet to take a decision on Pakistan’s invitation to the SCO meet.

• It is an intergovernmental political, economic, and security alliance founded in 2001 by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. 
• The first summit was held in Shanghai, China, in 2001.
• The SCO aims to promote cooperation and mutual support in areas such as trade, investment, energy, transportation, and security. 
• Headquarters: Beijing, China.

• Odisha govt has announced that all official works will be done in Odia language but now English can also be used along with Odia wherever required.
• This notification came from the Department of General Administration (GA) & Public Grievance.

Key Points:

• Under section 2(2) of Odisha Official Language Act, cabinet memorandums and meeting agendas of cabinet of ministers can be in both languages but all review meeting minutes will be in Odia. 
• All gazette notifications, press releases, information sheets, notifications and content of government websites will be in Odia and English.

Note:

• As per Article 184 of the Indian Constitution, business shall be transacted in the official language or languages generally used in that State or in Hindi or in English. 
• However, the Speaker or Chairman of the legislature can allow members to address the House in their mother tongue if they cannot express themselves adequately in any of the aforementioned languages. 

• A short film, 21 mins 51 secs length, by a student from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Odisha has been selected for the prestigious All African Independent Film Festival 2024. 
• The film, titled “The Middleman’s Dilemma,” showcases the talent and creativity of the young filmmaker.
• Bertin Twambaze Muhoza, of Rwanda, who is the final year direction special student (2021-2024 batch) of the KIIT School of Film and Media Sciences, has made the short film.
• The selection of this short film is a testament to the quality of education and training provided by KIIT’s film and media programs. 
• It also highlights the growing recognition of Indian filmmaking on the international stage.

• The Odisha government has introduced a toll-free number to provide assistance to beneficiaries of the Subhadra Yojana.

Key Points:

• Toll-free number: 14678   
• Availability: The number is accessible between 6 AM and 10 PM.
• Benefits: Beneficiaries can get detailed information about the Subhadra Yojana, clarify doubts, and seek assistance regarding the scheme.   
• Eligibility: To be eligible for Subhadra Yojana, women must be covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) or the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS)

• The Odisha government has announced plans to replace the existing “Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA)” scheme with a new program called “Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students.” 
• The “Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students” program will offer financial support to students enrolled in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

• The Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA) Odisha scheme is a comprehensive initiative launched by the Odisha government to empower its youth with continuous skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling opportunities. 
• With a focus on enhancing their employability and competitiveness in the job market, the scheme offers a wide range of training programs in various sectors.

• The Odisha government will set up a world-class sports infrastructure in the capital city of Bhubaneswar. 
• Aim is to construct a mega sports valley in 150 acres of land on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in the Gothapatna area.

Key features of the sports valley include:

• Modern sports arenas: The valley will house cutting-edge stadiums, courts, and tracks for various sports, including cricket, football, hockey, athletics, and more.
• Training facilities: Athletes will have access to world-class training facilities, including gyms, swimming pools, and sports science laboratories.
• Accommodation: The valley will provide comfortable and convenient accommodation options for athletes, coaches, and support staff.
• Sports academy: A sports academy will be established to nurture young talent and provide comprehensive training programs.
• Sports tourism: The sports valley will also promote sports tourism by hosting international sporting events and attracting visitors from around the world.
