The World Happiness Report 2021 was published on 19 March, 2021 by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. According to the report, this year Finland has been declared the world’s happiest country. Amazing is that it is the fourth running year for Finland to rank 1st.

In the list, in the top10 countries, nine were from Europe. Finland was followed by Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Austria.

In the list, the rank of India is 139 out of 149 countries. Last year, the rank of India was 144 out of 156 countries surveyed.
World Happiness Report 2021 is based on:
This year it ranks 149 countries and how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be. Also, the ranking is based on the Gallup World Poll which consists of six measures.
– Gross Domestic Product Per Capita (Purchasing Power Parity).
– Social Support.
– Healthy life expectancy at birth.
– Freedom to make life choices.
– Perceptions of corruption.
On a scale 0-10 respondents are asked to rate their own current lives.
World Happiness Report 2021, Worst performers are:
As per the report, Afghanistan is the most unhappy country and its rank is 149. It is followed by Zimbabwe (148), Rwanda (147), Botswana (146) and Lesotho (145).

This year the United States slipped one spot to number 19. According to John Helliwell, another author of the report “Surprisingly there was not, on average, a decline in well-being when measured by people’s own evaluation of their lives.”
About International Happiness Day 2021
On 20 March it is celebrated across the world annually to raise the importance of happiness in the diurnal lives of people. Related to it, the first resolution was first initiated by Bhutan which focuses on the importance of national happiness over national income since the early 1970s thereby adopting the Gross National Happiness (GNH) over Gross National Product (GNP).
In 2013, the United Nations started celebrating the International Day of Happiness and a resolution regarding it was passed in July 2012. The theme for International Happiness Day 2021 is “Happiness For All, Forever”.
Now, about Sustainable Development Network Solution
It was launched in 2012 tp mobilise global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical problem solving for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.
Under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary-General, it was established.
