1. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NFL Vijaipur and ITI Raghogarh
National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), a PSU under the Department of Fertilizers, has tied up with Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Raghogarh to train youth in Electrician, Fitter and Welder trades and also to enhance the chances of their employability in heavy and process industry.
The MoU facilitates the students who will be skilled under the Dual System of Training Scheme under which they will learn theoretical skills in the institute and 6 months on-the-job training in NFL Vijaipur plant.
2. Pleas against dilution of Article 370
A five-judge Bench, headed by Justice N.V. Ramana, heard the petitions challenging the reading down of Article 370 to strip Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and the bifurcation of the State into two Union Territories namely; Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
On August 5, a Presidential Order read down the Article 370 of the Constitution of India. The Article accorded special rights and privileges to the people of Jammu & Kashmir since 1954 in accordance with the Instrument of Accession.
The special status was bestowed by an order of President Rajendra Prasad in 1954 on the advice of the Jawaharlal Nehru Cabinet on the State by incorporating Article 35A in the Constitution.
3. Tribes fear of exclusion from 6th Schedule in Meghalaya
A sub-committee, set-up by the State government of Meghalaya, had decided to recommend to the Standing Committee of Parliament the removal of the word ‘unrepresented tribes’ from the amended Sixth Schedule.
The Sixth Schedule of the Constitution deals the provisions as to the administration of tribal areas in the States of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
The tribes include the Hajong, Koch, Rabha, Boro and Mann is minority tribes in Meghalaya. These tribes come under the unrepresented tribes and members of these tribes are also nominated to the autonomous district councils.
Meghalaya is divided into autonomous councils in the names of the three major matrilineal communities namely; Garo, Khasi and Jaintia.
4. RBI has initiated PCA against Lakshmi Vilas Bank
The Reserve Bank of India has brought Lakshmi Vilas Bank under Prompt Corrective Action (PCA). It has happened because of a high level of bad loans, lack of sufficient capital to manage risks, and a negative return on assets for two consecutive years.
The RBI move comes at a time when the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing has registered a complaint against the board of LVB alleging cheating and misappropriation of funds.
RBI has also advised the bank on the restrictions put in place and the actions to be taken by the bank, which the bank has taken note of for necessary compliance, with progress to be reported on a monthly basis to RBI.
5. Defence Acquisition Procedure, 2020
The new Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) of 2020 is a policy that will govern the procurement of defence equipment from the capital budget. It will supersede the Defence Procurement Procedure of 2016 from October 1. Features of the new policy are:
- The policy reserves several procurement categories for indigenous firms.
- This stipulates indigenisation of at least 50 per cent of the overall contract value of a foreign purchase bought with the intention of subsequently building it in India with technology transfer.
- It promotes greater indigenous content in arms and equipment of the military procures, including equipment manufactured in India under licence.
