Since the COVID-19 has spread across the globe, scientists have been able to close on who is likely to be susceptible to the virus. It dawned on many researchers that people who are grappling with low immunity systems had a tough time fighting against the virus and had lower chances of survival. It was people who already had chronic ailments and the aged who could get infected if the coronavirus entered their systems.
As the death toll and the number of people getting infected is increasing, people are trying hard to stay healthy. To stay healthy, you need to have good immunity levels, which help you fight disease infects microbes. In today’s generation, the immunity levels are at an all-time low because of various reasons, such as
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Consumption of junk food
- Intake of alcohol and tobacco
- Addicted to intoxicants and medication
- Not enough sleep/rest
- Too much screen time
- Less fluid intake
- Unhealthy diets/fads
All the above and several other reasons contribute to the decline of immunity in a person leading to deteriorating health and in turn low immunity levels as well. The contributing factors can be changed, and you can boost your immunity levels without taking extreme steps.
Ministry of AYUSH Guidelines for Boosting Immunity to Fight COVID-19:
The Prime Minister in his address to the nation also asked all citizens to follow the guidelines by Ministry of AYUSH to boost your immunity to protect yourself from coronavirus infection. The following are some general measures that the ministry encourages people to incorporate in their daily life for better immunity-
1. Drink warm water throughout the day.
2. Daily practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for at least 30 minutes as advised by Ministry of AYUSH
3. Spices like Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhaniya (Coriander) and Lahsun (Garlic) are recommended in cooking.
Now is the time to pull up your socks and rethink what you have been doing for your health. The need to change your lifestyle and make it a healthier one is important because exposure to the virus is more during this outbreak.
Be Active , Do Some Exercise:
Being physically active is very important; an exercise of some form is vital. It increases the production of antibodies and T-cells in the body. Exercise also increases the metabolism and blood circulation in the body and gets rid of the toxins in the body. The stress hormones are lowered as well. The body temperature also gets raised when you exercise, which helps in killing the pathogens that exist in the body.
Eat Right:
Eating the right kind of food will help increase immunity levels to a great extent. People are stuck to processed and junk food, which may seem tastier but have zero health benefits. More fruits and veggies in the plate with the right amount of probiotic food will make sure that your gut health and the remaining systems function without any issues. Don’t get stuck with diet fads. People who have deficiencies can speak with health practitioners to take the supplements that are required to compensate. Drinking a lot of fluids and keeping the body hydrated at all times is a must.
Get Enough Sleep:
Getting enough sleep or rest is vital for the systems to recuperate and regenerate. It is the time when you can allow the body to reboot. If you don’t provide enough rest your body, the stress levels will increase and deplete the body’s fighting mechanism.
Practice Good Hygiene:
There is a need to maintain good hygiene, which goes a long way to battle the COVID-19 situation.
Keep Your Mind Active
Keeping your mind active and not allowing it or getting depressed or panicked can affect the mental state of the person, which leads to lower immunity levels as well.
Get Fresh Air (With Maintaing Social Distancing)
Spending some time outdoors, in your own space such a garden, terrace or balcony (because of the lockdown and social distancing norms going completing outside isn’t a good idea)
Develop Good Habit:
Avoiding too much screen time, try to indulge in new activities such as cooking or reading a book, etc. because people are resorting to binge-watching, forgetting to eat food on time or go to the washroom and even sleep late. Hence all these attributes to lowering immunity levels.
Immunity levels can be boosted, and you don’t have to take particular medication to do so. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will do just the trick to get your immunity levels just right.
