Q1. A and B are two friends. A lives at a place P and B lives at another place Q. Everyday A goes to Q to meet B at 120 km/h. Thus, he takes 3 hours. On a particular day B started to meet A so the he moved towards P. On that day A took only 2 hours to meet on the way instead at Q.  What is the speed of B?

S1. Ans.(d)
Sol. Distance between P and Q = 120 × 3 = 360 km
Let the speed of B be S1, then
Time=Distance/Speed
2=360/(120 + S1 )
⇒ S1 = 60 km/h
Here, A and B are moving towards each other. So, the relative speed will be the sum of the speeds of A and B both.

S2. Ans.(b)
Sol. Total distance = (30 + 40)km = 70 km
Total time taken =((30/6)+5)hrs = 10hrs
Average speed =70/10 km/hr = 7 km/hr

S6. Ans.(d)
Sol. Let the present age of the man be x years.
Then, (x + 9) = 4(x – 15)
⇒ 3x = 69
⇒ x =23
Hence, the present age of the man is 23 years.

S7. Ans.(b)
Sol.

Area of the shaded region = Area of square of side
= 36 – (4 × (π ×3^2)/4)
= 36 – 9 ? = 9(4 – ?) sq. cm

Sol. Volume of the earth dugout as a tunnel
=πr^2 h= (22/7×2×2×56)=704 m^2
Volume of the ditch = (48×33×4)/2
= (24 × 33 × 4) = 3168 m^3
Part required = 704/3168=2/9

Sol. Distance travelled by train in 2 hours = 45 × 2 = 90 kms = 90000 m
No. of pole passed = (90000/50)+1
= 1800 + 1
= 1801 poles

Sol.
Let the number of friends be x.
so 108/(x – 3) – 108/x = 3
(108 × 3) /(x(x -3)) = 3
=> x2 – 3x = 108
=> x2 – 12x + 9x – 108 = 0
=> x(x-12)  + 9 (x -12) = 0
(x – 12) (x + 9) = 0
X = 12
Number of friends who attended
= 12 – 3 = 9
