Sol. Remaining length
=21/2-37/8=(84 – 37)/8=47/8 or 5 7/8 m

Q2. Five persons paint a house in 3 days when then work 8 hours every day. Then if one person works 4 hours every day, how much time (day) will he take to complete the same work?
(a) 30
(b) 15/2
(c) 6/5
(d) 3/10
Sol.
M_1 D_1 H_1=M_2 D_2 H_2
(where M → No. of persons, D → No. of days & H – hrs.)
5 × 3 × 8 =1×D_2×4
D_2=(5 × 3 × 8)/4 = 30 days
Q3. One has to run 250 metres to take one round of a ground. A girl has run 75000 centimeters. Then how many rounds has she taken and how many rounds more will she have to take in order to complete a run of 3 kilometres?
(a) 3, 9
(b) 30, 90
(c) 3, 90
(d) 30, 9
Sol. Girl’s run = 75000 cm =75000/100 m=750 m
No. of rounds she has taken if on round of ground is 250 m =750/250=3
Total round to complete 3 km
=(3 × 1000)m/250=12
So, she will here to take 9 rounds more to complete 3 km.

Q4. On subtracting 8 metric tonne (mt) 50 kilogram from 12 metric tonne 8 quintals we get

Sol. 1 metric tonne = 1000 kg
1 quintals = 100 kg

= 805 kg

= 12 × 1000 + 8 × 100 = 12800 kg
Difference = 12800 – 8050 = 4850 kg
Or 4 mt. 8 quintal 50 kg

Q5. A tank has 400 litre water. If 12 litre 500 ml water is used from it and the remaining water is filled in 25 cans of same capacity, then what is the capacity of each can?

Sol. Remaining water = 400 l – 12.5 l
= 387.5 l or 387 l 500ml.
Capacity of each can =387.5/25=15.5l

Sol. Distance = speed × time
= 75 km/hr × 20/60 hr = 25 km

Q8. A 250 m long train is running at a speed at 55 km/h. In how much time it will cross a platform of length 520 m?

(d) 16.36 sec.
Sol. Length of platform + Length of train = Speed of train × time to crossed the platform
(520 + 250)m = 55 km/hr × T
770 m =((55 × 1000)/3600)^(m/sec)×T
T(in sec.) =(770 × 3600)/(55 × 1000)=50.4 sec

Q9. A man travels some distance at a speed of 12 km/hr and returns at 9 km/hr. If the total time taken by him is 2 hrs 20 minutes, then the distance is

(b) 14 km
(c) 13 km
(d) 12 km
Sol. Let the distance is x
According to question
x/12+x/9= 2hr 20 min. or 2 20/60 hr
(9x + 12x)/108=7/3
21x=(7 × 108)/3
x=(7 × 108)/(21 × 3)=12 km

Q10. Number of hours and minutes from 6 : 14 a.m. to 8 : 02 p.m. on the same day is
(a) 14 hours 16 minutes
(b) 2 hours and 12 minutes

Sol. 8 : 02 pm – 6 : 14 am
