Today is the proud moment for India as India’s second Moon mission CHANDRAYAAN2 nicknamed Bahubali rocket set to take-off at 2:43 PM, 22nd July afternoon. The 20-hour countdown for the launch of the nearly Rs. The 1,000-crore mission began Sunday evening at 6.43 pm. India’s scientist had a narrow one-minute window in launching the moon mission Chandrayaan2, in the second attempt. The GSLV-Mk III rocket with Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was originally scheduled for flight at 2.51 am on July 15 but due to some technical snag, it was aborted just 56 minutes before the lift-off.

What is Chandrayaan2? Ready to know about the Unknown?

Chandrayaan 2 is an Indian lunar mission that will boldly go where no country has ever gone before — the Moon’s south polar region.  The main mission of launching this is to get a better understanding of the moon discoveries that will help humanity as a whole. It is the second lunar exploration of India after Chandrayaan-1. This mission was developed by ISRO from Sriharikota space center to the Moon by a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk III). It includes a lunar orbiter, lander, and rover.

What is the main motive behind this Launch? Why we are going to Moon?

Space discovery can be attempted on a cosmic body and moon is the closest on which we can attempt or document the research. It is also a promising testbed to demonstrate the technologies required for deep-space missions. ISRO scientist has attempted this to stimulate a new age of discovery, to increase our knowledge about the space and cosmic bodies, foster the advancement of technology, promote global alliances, and inspire a future generation of explorers and scientists.

Why explore the Lunar South Pole? Scientists objective behind Chandrayaan2!

To demonstrate the ability to soft-land on the surface of the Moon and to operate a rover on the surface is one of the key objectives of the mission. According to  ISRO’s website, The Moon provides us the best linkage to Earth’s early history and an undisturbed record of the nascent Solar System environment. While a few mature models do exist, the Moon’s origin still needs further explanations.  Extensive mapping of the lunar surface will aid us in studying variations in its composition — an essential piece of information in tracing the Moon’s origin and evolution. Evidence of water molecules — discovered by Chandrayaan 1 — and the extent of its distribution on the lunar surface and sub-surface also require further studies.
