INDIA’S FIRST DRIVE-THROUGH COVID-19 TESTING

INDIA'S FIRST DRIVE-THROUGH COVID-19 TESTING |_20.1

In a first of its kind in the country, India recently joined the bandwagon of other countries around the world to offer drive-through testing facilities to people for the detection of Coronavirus. Officially referred to as COVID-19, the virus has been declared as a pandemic around the world. And as of now, social distancing is only the ways to battle the disease. However, with the new age drive-through testing methods, maintenance, as well as the detection of the disease, could be ensured in a timelier, as well as in a better way.

As of now, the entire country is in a strict lockdown till April 14th, 2020. Due to this, a majority of people are confined of their homes and have very limited chances of being exposed to the deadly virus.

First Drive Through COVID-19 Testing

The first drive-through coronavirus testing facility of India is opened recently in the Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi. Established by Dr. Arjun Dang of Dr. Dang Lab, this drive-through testing facility can conduct up to 40 coronavirus detection tests every single day.

THE PROCEDURE OF TESTING:

The procedure for the detection test by Dr. Dang Lab is quite simple. Firstly People are advised to fill an online form on the testing centre’s website. Then, they need to attach their government ID to the form. After that, they need to make a payment through net banking or other digital platforms and book a slot. Once their allotted time is near, they can simply drive to the testing facility, provide their required samples and drive back to their homes. The Lab has also mentioned that in order to get tested, the person will require a doctor’s prescription where they have recommended the COVID-19 test. This prescription will also require the doctor’s registration number mentioned on it. The person will also be asked to answer questions such as the name and color of their cars, along with the number plate for added convenience during their appointment.

The testing facility will follow the below mentioned four steps to test coronavirus:

  1. The patient’s car will pass by the first station with signage and the name of the testing lab. The windows of the car must be kept rolled up until asked.
  2. Next, at the second station, trained personnel will check the registration number, name and color of the car. They will also check the personal identification of the patient. The personnel will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment while doing so.
  3. Once everything is checked in the second station, the patient can move to the third station, where the test will be conducted after document verification. A trained professional with PPE will conduct swab tests of the patient.
  4. The person can now roll up their car windows and drive back to their homes.

OTHER DETAILS OF THE FACILITY:

By following this procedure of testing, the drive-through testing centre not only ensures maximum safety of the people but also makes sure that there is minimal exposure of the infection to both the patients as well as the sample collectors. The entire procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Moreover, the test reports are made available online to the people within a period of 36 hours, which is quite less. As of now, the cost of the test by Dr Dang Lab is INR 4,500.

The lab will be setting up four stations in Delhi. Each station is said to have a dedicated officer for the procedure. The lab will be open every day between 08:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. and will allow around 20 to 30 minutes for each test.

It is important to note here that after the appointment is booked, the patient will receive a PDF with guidelines for the drive-through COVID-19 test. Additionally, only two people are allowed per vehicle. Moreover, two-wheelers and taxis are not allowed for the drive-through test.

With the establishment of more drive-through testing facilities in countries all around the world, the entire process of coronavirus detection is seemingly becoming easier. Moreover, such facilities are also offering both people as well as healthcare professionals with convenience and safety benefits. Additionally, they are reducing the burden on the hospitals and healthcare facilities of handling more people than they can handle at a given time, in addition to limiting the exposure of the infection to other people.
