Social Studies is an important section for REETMPTET , State TET, and other teaching exams as well. Social studies is the main subject in the REETexam Paper II. In REET, UTET Exam, the Social Studies section comprises a total 60 questions of 60 marks, in which 40 questions come from the content section i.e. History, Geography and Political Science and the rest 20 questions from Social Studies Pedagogy section. At least 10-15 questions are asked from the Political section in the REET, UTET Social studies section. Here we are providing important notes related to the Fundamental Duties

Strategy to Prepare For Social Studies in TET 2020

Fundamental Duties

The Fundamental duties were added by 42nd Amendment, 1976 by inserting Art. 51A and IVA under the Directive Principles of State Policy. This means these Duties are not enforceable by court in case of non-fulfilment by citizens. However, the state can enforce them through appropriate laws, enacted by legislatures.

New Directive Principles of State Policy

Some of the Directive Principles have been added by 42nd and 44th Amendments. These are-

  • 42nd Amendment 1976- 1. Appropriate opportunities and facilities for the development of children. [39(f)]. 2. Equal justice and free legal aid to poor citizens (39A). 3. Participation of Workers in the Management of Industries (43A). 4. Protection and improvement of environment and safeguarding forest and wildlife. (48A).
  • 44th Amendment 1978-1. Minimising the inequalities in income and status amongst individuals and groups of people. [38(2)]
  • Thus, four directive principles have been added by 42nd Amendment, 1976 and one by 44th Amendment, 1978.
  • 86th Amendment 2002- As per this amendment, for article 45 of the Constitution, the following article shall be substituted, namely- “45. The State shall endeavor to provide early childhood care and education for all children until they complete the age of six years.:

Article 51 A declares it to be the duty of every citizen of India-

  1. To abide by the constitution and respect its ideals, the National Flag and the National Anthem;
  2. To cherish and follow the noble ideals inspiring our freedom struggle;
  3. To uphold and protect the sovereignty and unity and integrity of India;
  4. To defend the country and render National Service when required;
  5. To promote harmony and common brotherhood amongst all the people of India and to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women;
  6. To value and preserve the rich heritage of out composite culture;
  7. To protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, wildlife and rivers etc. to have compassion for all living creatures;
  8. To develop scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform;
  9. To safeguard public property and to abjure violence,
  10. To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity.
  11. To provide opportunities for education to his child, or as the case may be, ward between the age of six and fourteen years.

Note: The 11th Fundamental duty was added by 86th constitutional Amendment Act 2002.

There is no provision in the constitution for direct enforcement of any fundamental duties nor for any section to prevent there violation.
