1. Higher Studies in Engineering

You may explore higher studies in engineering once you finish your Bachelor. It is one of the most sought after options where students opt for an in-depth study of their chosen field and can pursue higher degrees in Masters of Technology (M.Tech), Masters in Science (MS), or a Masters in Information System (MIS), these graduates embark on career opportunities after engineering in the fields of research and development for new technologies.

To pursue an M.Tech degree, a candidate must first clear the national level entrance test for masters called  Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering also known as GATE. GATE tests consist of the syllabus that was covered during B. Tech and a good score there provide a higher chance to be accepted by reputed colleges.

2. Data Scientist

Data Scientist is a job that is one of the most high paying ones in recent times. You can work in the IT industry once you complete your graduation in btech and after two to three years can switch to a data scientist job. It is a combination of few leading technologies like Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.

Data Scientist is responsible for designing data modelling processes which can help to create predictive models using the best algorithms  that passes various test cases. Data Scientists salary is one of the most competitive ones offered across the IT Industry.

3. Management-Related Career Options

An MBA degree

There are ample courses that can be taken up after B.Tech which open a wide variety of career opportunities after engineering. And pursuing MBA is one of them. MBA is a master’s degree in Business Administration which is a specialization course that trains a student in the art of business organization and management, employers of MNC’s prefer to look at candidates that have an MBA degree as potential hires. MBA programs are offered at the  Indian Institute of Management (IIM). One needs to qualify for the entrance exam for taking admission in IIMs called CAT.CAT is also a national-level exam followed by an interview round for final selections.

An MBA degree is quite beneficial as it escalates a graduate’s career and helps reach higher posts in the company just within the few initial years.

MBA can be pursued in the following sectors:

4. Jobs in PSUs

This one is for those engineer graduates who aim for more and don’t want to depend on the college campus placements and they seek a job in the PSUs.

PSUs are Public Sector Unit companies that are wholly or partially owned by the government of India. Some of the leading names include BHEL, SAIL, HAL, and IOCL. The government offers a special range of jobs to engineers who are eligible and qualified under their public sector units.

The eligibility criteria for entering a PSU is a pre-declared cut-off rate of the GATE exam scores. PSUs offer a very handsome monetary benefit, lifetime job security, and good standing within your society.

Few of the PSUs that hire employees based on GATE results include SAIL, Indian Oil, Vizag Steel, ONGC, DRDO, and NALCO and, therefore, any B. Tech graduates can attempt such exams for government jobs in PSU sectors.


5. Civil Services

Joining the civil services is a widely preferred choice considered by not only fresh engineering graduates but almost every graduate irrespective of their graduation background. The profession of civil services is a highly respected one in society, and these professionals receive many privileges during their tenure of employment.

It is one of the hottest career options, and it does demand a lot of hard work. Competition is so severe that for around 1 million students who give this exam every year, and only a handful of them are selected.

One needs to clear the highly competitive UPSC exam conducted for civil services which test its candidates in three different stages as it starts with a preliminary interview process, the candidate then passes on to take the mains of the UPSC Civil Service Exam (CSE), followed by a second interview.

Unconventional Careers Option after IIT JEE Mains

  • Entrepreneurship:

According to the survey, there are around 582 million entrepreneurs worldwide. People switch their profession over to entrepreneurship for a various number of reasons — personal satisfaction, higher income, better work-life balance, and the flexibility of working from anywhere in the world and to be one’s boss and what not!

  • Blogging
