Schools in the state of Telangana have been closed since mid-March due to the increasing threat of the Coronavirus Pandemic. While the students have been asked to stay safely at their homes during these trying times, their academic future has been facing a lot of uncertainties.
With the current academic session already starting, a decision regarding promoting the students to the next class had to be taken. Finally, the state government has decided to promote all the students from 1st class to 9th class to the next grade without any exception.
The statement issued by Chief Minister KCR Rao while interacting with the media read that, “The parents of students from class 1-9 need not worry about their exams. Today Cabinet has decided that all the students from Classes 1 to 9 of both public and private schools will be promoted to the next class.”

The decision to promote all class 1st to 9th students was initially taken in the meeting of the state cabinet, which in turn took place after the Prime Minister interacted with the Chief Ministers of different states regarding the coronavirus and lockdown situation in the country.
Though, the official announcement has been made just now after the Telangana School Education Department conveyed to the state government that presently there is no detention system for students of class 1st to 9th in the state.
As there is no detention system in place, it is not mandatory to conduct the examinations, and students will be promoted to the next class for the academic year 2020-21. As the summative exams for the academic year 2019-20 could not be completed, the decision had to be taken by the government.
