PISA 2021: As per the latest information shared by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Programme for International Student Assessment i.e. PISA will now not be organized in the year 2021. The notification mentions that the PISA will now be conducted in 2022 i.e. it has been postponed for one year. The decision to postpone PISA has been taken by the government after assessing the risk posed by the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The information has been conveyed to the Chandigarh Education Department as this year, India was to be represented by the schools of Chandigarh at PISA. The letter from the Ministry of Human Resource Development specified that a confirmation has been received from The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development wherein it has been specified that the PISA main survey for the current cycle, which was scheduled for 2021 has now been postponed to 2022. India will be represented by the students from schools in the Chandigarh UT including the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan schools. India’s Performance at PISA

The letter issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to the Chandigarh Education Department also specifies that it is a wish of the Secretary Department of School Education and Literacy that the schools have been closed since March due to the lockdown should use this period to improve the reading skills of the students. 

Chandigarh was selected for PISA 2021 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PISA is conducted every three years and is a competency-based assessment. India participated last time in the PISA in 2009. Important Details About PISA

PISA is quite different from content-based assessment in that it helps with measurement of the extent to which key competencies have been developed in the students which will enable them to wholly participate in modern societies. It aims to evaluate the education system all around the world by subjecting 15-year old students for testing of their skills and knowledge. The key areas in which the students are tested are Mathematics, Science, Collaborative problem-solving, and reading ability.
