Kerala School: The state government of Kerala will resume the “First Bell” classes from today, with several fresh classes being started. “First bell” is an initiative of the Kerala Government wherein virtual classes are being organized by the Kerala State General Education Department. These virtual classes are conducted on weekdays for students from classes 1st to 12th studying in the government schools of Kerala. The “First Bell” initiative had a trial run from 1st June 2020 because all the schools and educational institutions in the state have been closed since March 2020. More than 45 Lakh school students across the state have been attending the classes regularly. These virtual classes are being broadcasted on the VICTERS YouTube Channel to enable the students to continue their education, which has otherwise been completely disrupted due to the closure of schools because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gadget Sales Witness a Boost In Kerala

From the second phase of the First Bell classes, the government has taken a decision to include English subtitles for classes being conducted in English, Urdu, Arabic, and Sanskrit for the convenience of students. As of now, the VICTERS Mobile App has been downloaded more than 16 lakh times from the Google Play Store, and the subscriber base for the Victers YouTube Channel has reached 10 lakh.

The sale of electronic gadgets in the state has witnessed significant growth. As per an office-bearer of the Traders Organisation in Alappuzha, Mr. Anees Mangalya, “90 percent of the sales happened in the last ten days are either related to education or teaching. In areas where internet connectivity is poor, political groups, as well as non-government groups, have come forward to help the students. They have collected and distributed television sets for the students. As per an IUML Executive, “In our area, in Aliparamba panchayat, we were able to gather and distribute more than 20 Television sets among students from various social groups. As the students in Kerala had been facing problems with continuing their education during the lockdown, the state government has now started delivering virtual classes through the KITE Victers channel. The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education, KITE- Victers channel will be airing the education content for the students under a program named ‘First Bell.’ In order to start streaming the live classes,  students need to log-on to the official website @ https://victers.kite.kerala.gov.in/ and then click on the given link for starting streaming live classes. These classes have been envisaged by the government to help students study during the lockdown as the schools across the state have now been announced shut till 30th June 2020.

KITE Victers Channel: Details Shared By The Government

While interacting with the media, Mr. K Jeevan Babu, Director of Public Instruction, said, “We very well know the situation of COVID-19, it’s spread and how dangerous it is. We need the nod of the centre and the state government to open schools and start regular classes. So the department had decided to start online classes. He further added that “We are not entering into a regular school period. We are unable to open the schools considering the health situation across the world. Our students have even written their tenth and plus two exams under these trying circumstances.”

The timetable for the classes to be streamed on the channel has already been shared on the official website of the channel. The classes will be held from Monday to Friday for students of classes 1st to 10th and class 12th. The sessions will be telecast from 8.30 AM and will last till 5.30 PM. There will be different time slots for each class ranging from half an hour to two hours.

KITE Victers Channel: Classes Have Been Planned Properly

While addressing the concerns of students without the facility of internet, Mr. K Jeevan babu said, “We have entrusted the class teachers and school headmasters or principals to make sure that students have access to a television or a smartphone or a computer, and internet for the classes. Some of the alternatives suggested by the government include friends, neighbors, public libraries, and Akshaya centres. It was further added that all the classes would be available for download later on. This will help in compiling the lessons and sharing them with the students who have missed the classes due to any given reasons.

So, it is an incredible opportunity for students to continue their studies during the lockdown and should, therefore, must be availed of on a priority basis.
