New Education Policy And Sport: While interacting with the media during the opening session of the International Webinar on Olympism and Olympic Education in the 21st century,’ the Union Sports Minister, Mr. Kiren Rijiju stated that in the country’s new education policy, sports will be included as a part of the curriculum and will not be further treated as an extra-curricular activity. The minister further added that sports must be made a mandatory part of the education and should no longer be considered as an additional or optional subject. He said that he believes that education and sports are the same and should be treated as equals. His exact words being, “Sports is also an education, so sports cannot be extra-curricular activities. Thereby sports cannot be treated as an optional subject. Sports, as part of education, has to be accepted by all.”

Significant Initiatives Taken By The Government In This Direction

The minister stated that “The new education policy of India is not officially declared yet, but it is almost in the final shape. My ministry has already pushed very strongly during our interaction and my participation in the national committee to make sports an integral part of the education system.”

He also informed the media that the government has set-up a high-level committee to form the National Sports Education Board. He was quoted as saying, “I am very happy to share that we have already announced our National Sports Education Board. Olympic Museum Must Be Constructed In India

The sports minister also expressed his keen desire to construct an Olympics Museum in the country. But he said that these plans would have to wait for some time until the COVID-19 situation normalizes across the nation. When asked about the plans for an Olympic Museum, he stated that “About the Olympic Museum, I personally feel that the Olympic Museum is a very important treasure. We need to have in every country and a country like India, we have a good legacy, we must have that. So maybe after this COVID-19, when everything is over, we will discuss having a beautiful (and) worthy of calling it (an) Olympic museum, maybe in Delhi, maybe in our National Stadium. Assam School: There is an extremely important update for all the school and college students in Assam. On 7th May 2020, the state government of Assam announced the summer vacations for all the educational institutions in the state. During this period, no educational activities will take place in any educational institution. It is pertinent to mention here that since 23rd March 2020, all the schools and colleges in Assam were ordered to be shut in order to control the spread of Coronavirus pandemic. Ever since then, students have been continuing their education with the help of the online classes as well as other e-learning facilities available.

Assam Summer Vacations 2020: All Schools And Colleges Closed Till 31st May 2020

While making the announcement, the state education minister, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, said, “Assam government has decided to declare summer vacation for schools and colleges from 1st May to 31st May.” He further added that “There has been no decision regarding reopening of educational institutions, and it will be taken as per the guidelines of the Centre.”

The state has been under lockdown from 25th March 2020, and as all the schools and colleges in the state have been shut ever since, the government decided to include this period in the summer vacations. But when asked about the reopening of schools and colleges, the minister said that no decision had been taken yet. Once the nationwide lockdown is lifted on 17th May 2020, only then will the government decide.

Assam Summer Vacations 2020: Result for The Exams To Be Declared Soon

Recently, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council also announced that most probably the Assam Results 2020 will be declared by the end of June 2020. The exams have been conducted by the council many days before, but due to the sudden announcement of the nationwide lockdown, final results have not been declared. Now, that some relaxations have been announced in the lockdown, the process of evaluation of answer sheets has resumed with full force. There have been reports that around 15 evaluation centers in Assam have completed the evaluation and correction of answer sheets. They are ready to upload the marks for the purpose of compilation. So, the students can expect their results soon.

In the meantime, the government of Assam has issued guidelines to all government schools in the state to start online classes for students of class 10th and 12th. It is expected that the schools and colleges will resume their activities as soon as the vacations end, i.e. from 1st June 2020. But there are speculations that the classes might be online in nature and physical classes might resume only after some time.
