New NEP 2020: Ever since the announcement of the National Education Policy a few weeks earlier, there have been mixed reactions from different states. But most of the states have welcomed the decision of the union government and have started planning for implementation of the NEP 2020. Recently, during the Independence Day celebrations in Sikkim, the Chief Minister of the state Mr. Prem Singh Tamang stated that the government in the state will be setting up an education reform commission. The duty of the commission will be to design and implement a comprehensive policy that is in sync with the NEP 2020.
After hoisting the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day, the Chief Minister appreciated the National Education Policy and added that it offers a comprehensive framework and overarching vision for higher education sectors as well as the school education sector. He also stated that “The state government will set up a Sikkim Education Reform Commission to draw a comprehensive policy and strategy in line with the National Education Policy, 2020.”
New NEP 2020: Sikkim to Set-up Model Schools
On the occasion of the 74th Independence Day of India, the celebrations in the state were muted to a large extent. The social distancing norms and health safety guidelines were fully followed during the event. In addition to appreciating the NEP 2020, the chief minister also stated that there are plans to the government to set-up one model school in each district of the state. This model school will offer education to children using innovative learning and teaching methodologies.

New NEP 2020: Several Important Announcements were Made
The chief minister also paid tributes to the 20 brave army soldiers who achieved martyrdom during a bloody clash with the Chinese army in the eastern Ladakh, a few months back. He also asked the people of the state to keep fighting against the Coronavirus pandemic and use masks and observe social distancing at all times.
Concluding his speech on the occasion of the Independence Day, the chief minister took a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a self-reliant country. He asked people of the state to make Sikkim an AtmaNirbhar state and prefer locally produced products.
