Odisha Board 2020: Government Promotes Students In Classes 1-8, 9 And 11 Without Exams

The Coronavirus pandemic in India has taken its toll on the education sector. Not only are the schools closed since the mid-March 2020 but also no examinations have been conducted ever since. This posed a unique problem for the schools as the new academic year has started, but no new classes could take place because the students could not be promoted to the next class without exams. But finally, the government authorities in many states have taken a decision to promote students without conducting the exams. As per the latest news, the state government of Odisha has promoted students from class 1st to 9th and students from 11th class to the next year without any exams.

 

As per the notification issued by the Government of Odisha, “Keeping in view the interest and academic welfare of the students, against the background of the prevailing extraordinary circumstances and the lockdown, Government have been pleased to order that all students studying in Odisha State Government Schools under School & Mass Education Department, in Classes I to VIII in the academic year 2019-20 stand promoted to the next class.”

 

Odisha Exam Results 2020: Guidelines Issued by The Government

ln view of the pandemic situation arising out of COVID 19 and subsequent closure of Schools resulting in the postponement of Examination of few subjects of Class IX, now Government after careful consideration have been pleased to order that promotion of Class-IX students to Class- X in all Odia Medium Schools affiliated to Board of Secondary Education, Madrasah and Sanskrit-tools under School and Mass Education Department for the session 2019-20 may be taken at school level in the following manner.” The schools have also been instructed to ensure that the relevant information is forwarded to the parents.

 

As per the announcement, the marks scored by the students in the exams that have already been conducted will be taken into account for the annual examinations. As far as the subjects for which the exams could not be conducted, marks secured by students in the half-yearly exams will be taken into consideration. If in any case, the student was unable to appear for the half-yearly exams due to a valid reason, then the average marks scored in all unit tests during the year would be taken into account while promoting the student to the next year.

 

Odisha Exam Results 2020: Arrangement Only For One Year

While making this announcement, the Government also informed that the promotion of class 9th and 11th students to the next class is only for the academic year 2020-21 and will not extend beyond that. If for any genuine reason any student was unable to appear in the half-yearly tests or the unit tests, then he/she would be given a chance to appear for the re-test after the schools open and normalcy resumes.
