NIT Srinagar To Reserve 5 Percent Seats For Students From Ladakh

There is an important update for the students from Ladakh who wish to seek admission to the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. As per the latest update issued by the institute, 5% of all the seats reserved across the various undergraduate programs offered by the NIT, Srinagar will now be earmarked for the students from Ladakh. The reservation for the students from Ladakh will be available across all the reserved seats from the academic year 2020-21.

The statement issued by NIT Srinagar reads that “As per the Registrar, the University of Ladakh, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has initiated a move to reserve five percent seats in all undergraduate programmes of the NIT, Srinagar for eligible students of the UT of Ladakh within the overall quota seats of Jammu & Kashmir from the academic year 2020-21.”

Decision Necessary After Bifurcation Of The Erstwhile State

The new decision initiated by the Human Resource Development Ministry becomes significantly important as it will directly benefit the students from Ladakh. As the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories, i.e.  Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. So, there was a need for a special provision for the students from Ladakh. Now that the decision will be implemented from the current academic year, necessary arrangements have been made by the NIT.

The reservation of 5% for the students from Ladakh is valid only for the undergraduate courses at NIT, Srinagar. There will be no additional quota or reservation for the students from Ladakh for admission in postgraduate courses at the Nit, Srinagar.

Lockdown Extended InTo The Fourth Phase

As the coronavirus situation in the country is still not under control, the central government has decided to extend the lockdown till 31st May 2020. While various relaxations have been provided across the green, orange, and red zones but all the educational institutions across the country will continue to be closed till 31st May 2020. So, the students are advised to continue their studies with the help of the online learning resources made available by the institute.

In order to be eligible for the available quota, the students must have a domicile of the UT of Ladakh and meet other eligibility criteria as specified by the institute. This excellent opportunity for the students from the Ladakh region hold s a lot of promise as it would be easier for the students to now gain admission into the desired courses being offered at the NIT, Srinagar.
