Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, two of the most sought after competitive entrance exams, i.e., JEE 2020 and NEET 2020, have been postponed. This has been causing huge distress to lakhs of students who had registered for these exams. Previously the Human Resource Development Minister, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, had announced that both the JEE 2020 and NEET 2020 would be conducted towards the end of May 2020.
But now, as the nationwide lockdown has been extended till 17th May 2020, there is a chance that the dates for these exams will be extended further. As the HRD Minister will be conducting a webinar on 5th May 2020 at 12 noon, it is being expected that he will announce the dates for JEE 2020 and NEET 2020. This will be the second time in a month that the minister will go live.
JEE 2020 and NEET 2020 – Lakhs Of Students Wait For The Dates
Like every year, this year also lakhs of students have registered for the JEE 2020 and NEET 2020. As a matter of fact, more than 9 lakh students have registered for JEE Main 2020 exam, which is conducted for admission into the engineering colleges across India. Approximately 15.93 Lakh students will appear for the NEET 2020 exam, which is conducted for admission into the medical colleges across the country.
As the exam dates have already been postponed several times, it is causing a lot of anxiety amongst the students and their parents. It is expected that the HRD minister will offer some clarification regarding the dates for JEE 2020 and NEET 2020 so that the students can plan their preparations accordingly. Both these exams are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
HRD Minister Webinar: Other important issues to be addressed as well
It is being expected that along with the issue of the dates of JEE 2020 and NEET 2020; the minister will address other pertinent issues as well. Recently, the education minister for Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia had requested the ministry to reduce the curriculum for the current academic session due to the forced closure of schools as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. It is possible that the minister will make an announcement on this matter as well.
Students and parents had started raising queries as soon as the webinar was announced. Some of the important issues raised include the college level semester exams and annual exams, issues with online classes, and how to promote the students from class 10th and 12th, whose exams are still outstanding. With so many uncertainties and questions, the webinar to be conducted by the education minister becomes extremely important.
