NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024 Revised, Check Age Limit, Qualification, No of Attempts

The National Testing Agency has revised the NEET Eligibility criteria 2024. The NEET UG 2024 eligibility criteria related to academics have been updated by the NTA. Candidates who studied chemistry, physics, biology, or biotechnology as an additional subject in Class 12 are eligible to take the exam, according to the updated NEET UG 2024 eligibility criteria. Earlier only those students who studied the PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology) as regular subjects were eligible to apply for the NEET UG exam.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024

The NTA has changed the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria in terms of schooling type and subjects studied. As per the latest NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024, students ho studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology in their class 12, whether as compulsory subjects or optional subjects, are eligible to appear for the NEET exam. Now there is no obligation that the PCB subjects must have been the compulsory subjects not additional subjects. Prior to the previous year, NEET eligibility was limited to candidates who had studied these as core or main subjects.

Moreover, the NTA has also revised the NEET eligibility criteria 2024 for students who are studying in open board schools or private students. Candidates who passed Class 12 or its equivalent from Open Schools or as private candidates were prohibited from appearing on the NEET till last year; however, NMC has eliminated this restriction this year. Applicants who successfully completed their Class 12 Board examination from Open Schools are now qualified for NEET 2024. Private candidates are also eligible to apply for the NEET UG 2024 exam.

NEET UG 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The NTA has released the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria through the online mode. The NEET 2024 eligibility criteria was released through the information brochure. NTA released the NEET eligibility criteria along with the NEET application form 2024. The NTA has started the NEET UG 2024 application form from 9 February 2024. Candidates will be able to fill out the NEET UG application form 2024 up to 9 March.

NEET Latest Update on Eligibility Criteria

The NMC has made a remarkable change in the Eligibility criteria of NEET UG exam. As per the new eligibility criteria, candidates who have pursued Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology along with English even as additional subject in their class 11th and 12th can now appear for the NEET UG exam subject to fulfilling the rest of the NEET eligibility parameters.

Earlier, candidates who had studied any of the above-three subjects as an additional subject were not allowed to apply for the NEET exam. Also, those candidates who were rejected on this ground of eligibility in the past can now apply for the NEET exam. The NEP (National Education Policy), which allows for flexibility in the courses studied in Class 12, was taken into consideration when making this change in the Eligibility criteria, according to NMC.

The NMC notice said, “Therefore, after the framing of Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 the earlier Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 including the various amendments stand repealed prospectively”.

The NMC held detailed deliberations in a meeting held on June 14, 2023 and took into consideration the New Education Policy, which permits great extent of flexibility in the study of various subjects in Class 12. And “decided that the previous approach of the erstwhile Medical Council of India needs to be revisited by permitting candidates to undertake study of the requisite subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology along with English) even as additional subjects after passing Class 12th from duly recognized boards by the concerned Government”.

The NMC also revised its eligibility criteria for students who have passed their class 12 exam from open schools or as private candidates. Candidates who have passed class 12 exam in the required subjects whether from the open school or as private candidates are eligible to appear for the NEET examination.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024 12th Marks

In order to be eligible to sit the NEET 2024 exam, aspirants must have secured a minimum required pass percentage in their 12th grade. The necessary passing percentage is determined by the NTA. A candidate must be a minimum of 17 years old as of December 31, 2024.

  • NTA establishes the minimal pass percentage required in Class 12 for NEET 2024. The organizing authority has set the total scores for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology required to qualify for NEET as follows –
    • 50% for unreserved students (UR)
    • 40% for OBC/SC/ST and PWD students.

The maximum number of NEET 2024 attempts is unrestricted. With modifications to the NEET UG eligibility criterion in 2018, the number of NEET tries was lifted. As a result, there is no limit to the number of attempts for the NEET 2024. 12th Percentage Required for NEET 2024

Students must obtain a certain percentage of marks in order to appear for NEET 2024 examination. The percentage of marks required vary as per the category of the student. As we know, National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a national entrance test, to candidates for admission to undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) programs in government and private Indian universities. The students of different categories must have scored the following percentage of marks in their class 12 exam.

UR/General: 50% marks

OBC/SC/ST/PWD: 40% marks

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024 for Nursing Students?

Aspirants can view the most recent NEET eligibility criteria for the year 2024 for nursing students based on NEET scores.

  • Students must be 17 years old as of December 31, 2024.
  • Candidates must have completed Class 12 with physics, chemistry, biology, and English as mandatory courses.
  • Minimum aggregate marks are as follows –
    • General category candidates must have obtained 45% in the qualifying examination,
    • while SC/ST/OBC candidates must have obtained 40%.

NEET 2024 Eligibility Criteria for NRI/Foreign/OCI Students?

Candidates who finished their education outside of the country are eligible to apply for the NEET 2024, but they must meet certain NEET eligibility criteria applicable for 2024.

  • Non-resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission to Medical/Dental Colleges, subject to the laws and regulations of the various State Governments, Institutions, and the Government of India, as applicable.
  • The final examination that NRI/Foreign students must pass should be comparable to a Class 12 qualification in their home country. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and must have passed the qualifying examination theory and practical tests in each of these areas, as well as English.
  • In addition to their online NEET UG 2024 application form, NRI and OCI Applicants/Candidates must upload a Certificate from the pertinent Indian Diplomatic Mission in the nation of their home to substantiate their claim as an NRI/OCI Candidate.
  • A foreign applicant for NEET 2024 must also submit Documentary Proof (e.g. relevant pages of a passport that is current or a Certificate from the relevant authority in the country of his or her nationality concerning his/her citizenship status) in to demonstrate his/her Nationality, in addition to the online NEET application form.

According to the NEET Eligibility Criteria current provision provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ notification on the rights of OCI cardholders –  OCI candidates have the same rights as NRI candidates when it comes to appearing for entrance exams. Also stated that the OCI cardholder shall not be qualified for admission to any seat kept exclusively for Indian citizens.

In accordance with the National Testing Agency, the current rule for OCI candidates in the NEET UG 2024 information bulletin states that such candidates will be regarded as outsiders and will be ineligible for places designated for Indian citizens, including funded deemed university seats.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023 Amended Provision
