MK Premchandran, a Lok Sabha member, raised the issue in the house on Tuesday amid outrage over the difficult and lengthy Mathematics and English papers in the Central Board of Secondary Education Class 12 board exams. He urged the education ministry to consider a liberal evaluation process for the sake of students who appeared in the exams. “The CBSE Class 12 Maths and English papers were extremely difficult, with questions that were lengthy and off-syllabus,” the MP claimed. During the zero hour, the Kerala leader of the Revolutionary Socialist Party raised the issue, saying, “The Class 12 Maths exam, which took place on December 6, was difficult, lengthy, and even out of syllabus. Following the completion of the paper, students became depressed.” He also referenced the 12th English paper, which was held on December 3, and described it as “extremely difficult and out of syllabus, causing concern among students.”

The CBSE Class 10 English board exam marked the completion of the Term 1 board exams for students in Class 10. The paper was simple enough, but it contained mistakes that students and teachers pointed out. A few teachers mentioned the probability of CBSE awarding extra marks to students as a result of the mistake. “With regard to the concerns made about English Class 10 Questions 13 and 14 in Set 002/2/4, it should be noted that both questions are accurate and there is no ambiguity,” CBSE spokeswoman Rama Sharma said. “Questions should be answered in accordance with the instructions given, not in isolation,” she explained. She further said that the comprehension passage began with the sentence, ‘Read the material below and answer the questions/complete the statements that follow by selecting the most appropriate option from the options provided.’
