Supreme Court Hearing On November 18: Students’ Plea Against Offline Exam

On November 18, the Supreme Court of India will hear a petition filed by CBSE and CISCE students seeking an online alternative in addition to center-based offline exams. The case was set to be heard today. The six petitioners contend that the tests should be administered in a hybrid mode, which includes both online and offline components.
The petitioners are concerned about the risk of illness and the impact on subsequent exams because the key subject exams in December 2021 are spread out over three weeks, according to the petition. The tests for major topics in December 2021 will be preceded by physical exams for minor subjects in November 2021, increasing the chances of the exams for major subjects becoming a Super Spreader Event.
In any case, such continuous exposure to Covid 19 through offline exams greatly increases the risk of infection, rendering the impugned action arbitrary and in violation of the Right to Health, and the option of online exams will facilitate social distancing and reduce strain on logistical constraints, according to the plea.
