CBSE, ICSE Board Cancelled 10th, 12th Exams 2020: In what could be termed as one of the biggest announcements in the education sector of India, for the first time in history, the Central Board of Secondary Education has cancelled the class 12th and class 10th board exams. The exams were scheduled to be conducted from 1st July onwards and would have culminated on 15th July 2020. It must be noted that these exams were only being conducted for those important subjects whose exams could not be conducted due to the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The decision taken by the CBSE to cancel the pending board exams was conveyed to the Supreme Court of India by the solicitor general Tushar Mehta. The reply was filed against the notice issued by the Supreme Court to the government and the CBSE regarding a petition filed by parents body in the Supreme Court. Ever since the CBSE had decided to conduct the pending examinations, there were a lot of apprehensions in the parents and students both because the situation in the country is presently far from conducive.

The students and parents who were feeling wary of appearing for the exams amidst the looming threat of the Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, petitions were filed in the Supreme Court to cancel the pending board exams to be conducted by CBSE. Now that the government’s decision to cancel the CBSE Board Exams 2020 has been officially announced, the parents and students can breathe a sigh of relief. The solicitor general also submitted to the court that class 12th board exams can be conducted in future for students who wish to opt for it. But the conditions need to be conducive for that. So, it is expected that the results for the class 10th and class 12th students will be announced by CBSE based on the performance of the students in the internal assessment.
ICSE Board: Also Cancels Their Exams 2020
State governments of Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu had earlier expressed their inability to conduct the pending board exams. It must be noted that these three states have the highest number of Coronavirus patients in the country. Earlier, CBSE had to abruptly stop the examinations in March due to the pandemic. Then the evaluation process also faced hiccups due to lockdown restrictions. Thereafter, it was announced that class 10th exams will only be held for students with examination centres or residence in east Delhi. Following the cue of CBSE, ICSE has also decided to cancel the pending board examinations for class 10th and 12th students. So all the students who were preparing for the board exams to be conducted by ICSE will now also be evaluated through their performance in the internal assessment examinations and activities conducted by the respective schools. It is expected that those students who wish to improve their marks will be given a chance to appear for the exams at a later date. While the decision will bring relief to the parents and students who were wary of the rapid spread of the infection. But how will the universities be conducting their entrance process now is to be seen. The new academic session in the universities is expected to commence from 1st August onwards. It is expected that the government will issue new guidelines in this regards soon.
