UPSC CSE Prelims 2020 GS Paper 1 Exam Analysis: Students and Experts Views

This year in UPSC CSE Prelims 2020 questions asked are related to agriculture and recent trends on MSP, Agri procurements, and on eco-friendly agriculture practices.

As per the candidates, who appeared for the UPSC IAS Exam have found paper difficult. Most of the questions were application-based touched the recent developments worldwide and also questions from science and technology, economy and on polity influenced questions in current affairs.

According to some other candidates, questions asked in the UPSC CSE Prelims GS Paper 1 in science and economy were conventional type and were slightly tricky. In history, questions asked were mostly from ancient and medieval periods while geography had questions from current affairs. Expecting cut off around 80 to 90.

According to some experts, the paper has mostly shifted to application-based than from current affairs. Cu-Off of this year will remain identical to last year as the paper is unconventional. Questions asked from current affairs demanding conceptual clarity to solve.

UPSC Prelims GS Paper 1as per some students was Unexpected and mostly unpredictable questions were asked.

According to some students, totally unpredictable and different than paper from the past few years.

Some questions are asked from Environment, Agricultural science, etc.

According to some experts and students, GS Paper 1, 2020  was moderately tough. Majorly questions were asked from Agriculture, Economy and Banking.

Aspirants with better analytical abilities and depending less on rote learning are at advantage in this paper except in History and Art and Culture. The paper demanded the active presence of mind.

Expected Cut-Off

As per the experts, UPSC CSE Prelims 2020 paper 1 cut-off is expected to remain almost near to the last year as the question paper was unconventional.

The cut-Off is minimum marks required to qualify prelims every year varies. In UPSC CSE Prelims 2019 for General category Candidates the cut-off was 98, in 2018 it was 98 and in 2017 it was 105.34. Variation in cut-off marks is because of the dynamic nature of the exam.
