UGC NET Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2021

UGC NET Syllabus is generally very vast as it has a different Syllabus for each and every subject in its purview. Here we are going to provide you with all the necessary details that a UGC NET aspirant must be aware of regarding the course and Syllabus of the UGC NET 2021 Examination. UGC NET 2021 (December cycle) was earlier scheduled to take place in May 2021 but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the UGC NET 2021 got postponed and the new Exam Dates are yet to arrive. In this article, we have discussed the UGC NET syllabus (December Cycle 2021) Paper-I & Paper-II in detail. UGC NET Exam is considered one of the most Popular Exams among Post – Graduates due to its variety of subjects and respective Syllabus. UGC NET Syllabus generally consists of two Papers, UGC NET Paper -1 (General Paper similar for all) and UGC NET Paper -2 (Different for all subjects).

UGC NET Syllabus 2021

The University Grants Commission (UGC) every year with the help and coordination of the National Testing Agency (NTA) decides the UGC NET syllabus for its aspirants. Based on the different subjects, a planned detailed syllabus prescribed by UGC is available for the candidates. The UGC NET Syllabus for Paper I and Paper II is as follows. Candidates can plan their preparation accordingly.

UGC NET Syllabus 2021 for Paper-I

UGC NET Paper-I is a general the tests the candidate’s knowledge with respect to Teaching and Research Aptitude, basic knowledge of the English language, Mathematical and Reasoning Skills and etc. It is common and mandatory for all the candidates irrespective of their choice of subject.   • Factors affecting teaching related to Teacher, Learner, Support material, Instructional facilities, Learning environment, and Institution
  • Methods of teaching in institutions of higher learning: Teacher-centered vs. learner-centered methods; offline vs. online methods (Swayam, Swayamprabha, MOOCs, etc.).
  • Teaching support system: Traditional, modern, and ICT based
  • Evaluation systems: Elements and types of evaluation, evaluation in Choice Based Credit System in higher education, computer-based testing, innovations in evaluation systems
Unit-II: Research Aptitude
  • Research: Meaning, types, and characteristics, positivism and post-positivistic approach to research
  • Methods of research: Experimental, descriptive, historical, qualitative and quantitative methods

  • Thesis and article writing: Format and styles of referencing
  • Application of ICT in research

Unit-III: Comprehension
  • A passage of text is given. Questions to be asked from the passage to be answered
Unit-IV: Communication
  • Communication: Meaning, types, and characteristics of communication
  • Effective communication: Verbal and non-verbal, inter-cultural and group communications, classroom communication
  • Barriers to effective communication
  • Mass-media and society
Unit-V: Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude
  • Types of reasoning
  • Number series, letter series, codes, and relationships
  • Mathematical aptitude (fraction, time & distance, ratio, proportion and percentage, profit and loss, interest and discounting, averages etc.)
Unit-VI: Logical Reasoning
  • Understanding the structure of arguments: Argument forms, structure of categorical propositions, mood and figure, formal and informal fallacies, uses of language, connotations and denotations of terms, classical square of opposition
  • Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning
  • Analogies
  • Venn diagram: Simple and multiple use for establishing validity of arguments
  • Indian Logic: Means of knowledge
  • Pramanas: Pratyaksha (Perception), Anumana (Inference), Upamana (Comparison), Shabda (Verbal testimony), Arthapatti (Implication) and Anupalabddhi (Non-apprehension)
  • Structure and kinds of Anumana (inference), Vyapti (invariable relation), Hetvabhasas (fallacies of inference)
Unit-VII: Data Interpretation

A. UGC NET Stands for University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test.

Q. What is the purpose of conducting the UGC NET Exam?
A. The UGC NET Exam is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for the post of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) in Indian Universities and Colleges.
